Start anywhere that feels natural, your legacy does not need to be written in order
Don’t worry about perfect sentences or grammar. Write the way you speak, be authentic
Take your time. This isn’t meant to be finished in one sitting. Reflect slowly, pause when you need to. Some stories may come easily, while others may need more time – and that’s ok
Revisit it from time to time to update
Go through photos, keepsakes, your phone…sometimes one image or text can unlock a story. Think about your senses, maybe a smell of something cooking in the kitchen could trigger a memory. Music has the power to transport you to very specific times in your life
If something makes you smile write it down. If your heart feels heavy, that is important too
Don’t forget the small details, for instance sounds, and what you are grateful for
Invite a loved one or friend into the process, you may need a writer from time to time should you need a helping hand or record yourself and jot it down later
